Waymark is a busy, ambitious and vibrant young company with a talented workforce dedicated to providing clients with bespoke solutions that will save them time and money. Here we’ll tell you what we’re up to, and bring you updates from the wider IT sector.

A LEADING regional software development company has expanded into new offices. Award-winning Waymark has been headquartered in Metro Riverside Park, Gateshead, since 2011, but has now outgrown its offices at Yours Business Networks and has taken over the top floor of Derwent Point in Clasper Way, Swalwell. “We’ve quite simply run out of space,” explained Waymark MD David Brophy, “We’re currently recruiting a further three members of the team – two new developers and a salesperson – and that will take our numbers up to 16.

“Our new offices in Derwent Point have 2,800sq ft of space and we’re more than doubling our floor size. We’ve converted the top floor into an open-plan area with a kitchen and an office. “The new office is ideally located for us as it’s close to the A1, and Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Durham are easily accessible. It’s also central for most of our team members and we have some great riverside views of the Tyne. “We’ve signed a five-year lease and we have enough space to expand to our target of 25 members of staff over the next couple of years.

The business is expanding at the rate we envisaged and have planned for, and the overall growth in staff numbers is down to an increase in the number of clients we now work with. “We want to be one of the top three software houses in the region and plan to have a turn-over of £10m within the next five years. “We’ve spent some time creating the office environment we want and the team has been excited about moving into our new premises for some time.”

Earlier this year Waymark scooped the Creative Industries category at the prestigious UK Northern Powerhouse Awards. The company recently moved its Sunderland office from the Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) to Sunderland Software Centre. In May, Waymark launched a new, cloud-based field service management solution, Wayforce, aimed at making the running of any mobile workforce easier. Waymark used Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform and received help and direct support from the technology giant. There has been keen interest in the new solution, which is already being used by a large, multi-national organisation. Other products developed by Waymark include Attro, a powerful software application for schools and colleges that provides valuable data for teachers, and Asset Cycle, an application to keep companies updated on the life cycle of assets.

Waymark was set up six years ago, and began developing software for utility services. It has since expanded into the education, health, logistics and commercial sectors, working with more than 30 clients.
